The Award portion of the Inspection proved to drag on way too long. After a while, simply standing there at perfect attention in the blistering heat with the blinding sun was only painful. For the Officers who carried sabres and absolutely had to keep them drawn, it was pure hell. A little while longer, and it soon became unbearable. Unfortunately, we had one cadet collapsing after standing at attention for too long. He was immediately attended to and sent to our Medical Center. Several others followed in pursuit, not fainting, but dehydrated from the sun.
In order to prevent anyone else from fainting, we skipped right into the Pass and Review portion of the inspection, where each of the platoons would salute Commander Spence and stop where they previously were. The Staff Presentation went on without anyone finding out who won the prestigious honor platoon. Commander Spence had multiple useful tips to improve our unit and hopefully we carry them out. Afterwards, we asked about honor platoon, and whichever platoon with the most cadets earning "Outstanding" won. The winner was Bravo Platoon!
For this AMI, we had the privledge of having Miss North California sing the National Anthem as she stood alongside Chief Campos, Chief Rayson, and Commander Spence, as well as Mr. Neria and Mr. Espinosa. Mr. Neria and Mr. Espinosa have been supporting our unit and our Area Management Inspection every year. :) We also had a guest visitor who had previously graduated from San Ysidro High School to pursue a career in the Marines, Lance Corporal Alvarez. :)
