Patrick Henry Brain Brawl Competition

On April 30th, the San Ysidro High School NJROTC Academic Team took a trip to Patrick Henry High School to compete in what we know as Brain Brawl. Roughly 20 other schools were in attendance and ready to compete, but our academic team was not intimidated. They walked in together and approached the area where they would test their knowledge. With confidence and having prepared themselves by studying and taking tests and using buzzers to sharpen their reflexes as well as their knowledge, our academic ambassadors took their place in the arena. The competition began and buzzers were sounding off left and right. They quickly found themselves bombarded with health and orienteering questions that were from our versions of “The Bible”. Although they were at a disadvantage, they answered questions with quickness and accuracy. It was obvious that even at a disadvantage, they would not go down without a fight. Our academic team competed well, but, unfortunately, were eliminated early as the majority of the questions concerned health and orienteering, which were not the main focus of what our unit studied. Our team studied broader concepts and now are better prepared than ever before. Next time, our team will be a force to be reckoned with and other schools will know that they need to study even harder to beat our unit Einsteins. Congratulations to the Academic Team Captain, Cadet Petty Officer 2nd Class Henry Varela, Cadet Ensign Mitchel Lindgren, Cadet Chief Petty Officer James Bush, Cadet Seaman Alex Rosas, and Cadet Seaman Dale Bongolan for an outstanding performance.
